Partly Cloudy? Partly Sunny? Euphemisms, with George Carlin

Manipulation of perception, or attentiveness to the feelings of others?  Comedians get away with raising issues that most of us would be mortified (“Scared Shitless?”) to even hint at.  Euphemism is one of them.  “Soft language” is at times necessary.  I do accept and support its use in specific contexts, but a question must be raised: when does euphemism cross the boundary line between “attentiveness to the feelings of others” and manipulative bullshit to bend another’s perception of reality?  Depends on who’s talking, in what context, to whom and for what reasons.  No “word” as word is ever the guilty (or innocent) party.  In this installment of Smart Shit, George Carlin raises the question of euphemisms.  Some content will be controversial.  This is George, after all.  Listen, watch, decide for yourself.
